Events at the Trinity Centre for Translation in Dublin
Juni 28, 2026
Tuesday, 30 June 2026

Translators Rachel McNicholl and Lucy Jones will be discussing their translations of a passage from ‚Essen‘ (Food), a culinary biography by German-Russian writer Alina Bronsky. This event is kindly supported by the Goethe-Institut Irland.
This year we are celebrating the 250th anniversary of modern language teaching at Trinity College Dublin. As part of the celebrations, we are hosting a series of translation slams with the generous support of the Polish Embassy in Ireland, Instituto Cervantes Dublin and the Goethe-Institut Irland.
At these slam events, we give two acclaimed translators the same text to translate and ask them not to confer with one another. We then bring the translators together to discuss and compare their final translations. This translation slam will be of interest to anyone with an interest in translation, and no specific knowledge of German is required. Admission is free and all are welcome. Book your place here.

What does it mean to bring a forgotten queer classic back to life in a new language? SMALLTOWNNOVELLA by Ronald M. Schernikau was a cult debut novel that had to be reprinted within days of its publication in 1980s West Germany, and yet it has remained unknown to Anglophone readers for over four decades. Translator Lucy Jones will be in conversation with fellow translator Frank Wynne about her new English translation of this classic.
Admission is free and all are welcome. Book your place here.
